BLACKOUT SHADES.

Bedrooms, media rooms, nurseries — true 100% room darkening. Side and bottom light-blocking channels eliminate the gaps that ruin most blackout installs.

Why this matters

TRUE BLACKOUT,
NO LIGHT GAPS.

Most 'blackout' shades aren't actually blackout — they leave 1-3 inches of light leaking around the edges. For nurseries, media rooms, and serious sleepers, that's enough to ruin the install. Real blackout requires side and bottom light channels that physically block side gaps.

We install Lutron blackout systems with side channels, Hunter Douglas Duette LightLock, and other premium blackout systems with true 100% light blocking. The fabric AND the install matter.

FAQ

BLACKOUT SHADES QUESTIONS.

How dark is 'blackout'?

True blackout: you can't see your hand in front of your face on a sunny day. We install systems that achieve this — most off-the-shelf 'blackout' shades don't.

Side channel light gaps?

Side channels add $200-$400 per window. Worth it for nurseries and media rooms — without them, you have a 1-3 inch light gap on each side.

Best for nurseries?

Hunter Douglas Duette LightLock or Lutron with side channels. Both are pediatric-recommended for sleep-trained babies.

Media room recommendation?

Lutron blackout with side channels — also gets you remote control and scene integration with the AV system.

Cost per window?

Standard blackout roller: $400-$700. Blackout with side channels: $900-$1,500. Premium motorized blackout: $1,500-$3,000.

Can I retrofit existing windows?

Yes — channel mounting works on most window types. We measure first.
